Insurers warn of rising premiums after Trump axes Obamacare payments again

With or without an official repeal bill passing through the House or Senate, there is little doubt that the Affordable Care Act is well on its way to imploding, thanks to the latest Trump administration move to suspend the ACA risk adjustment program, which was put into place to incentivize health insurers to provide coverage to individuals with pre-existing and chronic conditions by collecting money from insurers with relatively healthy enrollees to offset the costs of other insurers with sicker ones.
An official statement issued from America’s Health Insurance Plans (AHIP), a trade group representing insurers that offer health plans via self funded employers, through government programs and in the individual marketplace, states that a CMS suspension of would create a “new market disruption” at a “critical time” when insurers are setting premiums for next year.
To both employers and employees, if you think your premiums are high now, think again.
